tachion 0 Posted June 21, 2005 Gotta love those faces! Nice job. They don't seem to be aware of you at all, totally in their own grumpy world. Excellent! I think I would have considered framing them a little more tightly. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks Tachion This photograph was taken in the grounds of Budapest Castle. This castle has a long history. The mediaeval castle was almost completely destroyed in 1686, in the war to recover the city of Buda from the Turks. In 1715 a modest Baroque palace was constructed to replace the Gothic one, however the Castle was expanded in the following century, and in 1790 the Palace was completed, only to be destroyed in the many european conflicts that followed. Most of the current structure is the result of extensive restoration, and the Palace now houses an Art Gallery and Museum. These two ladies seemed to have lost their tour group, or perhaps they were locals. I didn't hide the fact that I was taking their photograph, they just didn't flinch! - Who knows, maybe they are exceedingly famous in Hungary, and are very used to having their photographs taken! Kind regards, Nick. Link to comment
jnicholson 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Hi Nick, I like the picture and the capture of the moment shared by the two ladies. I'm thinking maybe if you had moved a little to your left to prevent the bush in the background from coming down in the middle of the lady's head? Just a thought. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Hello Jamie I completely agree with you about the bush - I just didn't see it! Oh, well we continue to learn! Kind regards, Nick. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted June 22, 2005 Hello Nick, This is a gem of a shot. Another example of your ability to produce fascinating work from the, dare I say it, mundane. What I like about it, is that they are compltely natural, they don't care about the camera. Very good work. Best wishes. Pete Link to comment
maurik 0 Posted June 22, 2005 Hello Nick,I agree with some of the comments above. Jee, had not noticed the bush until I read the comments. I like the other crop as well. You must have had fun taking this photo. Link to comment

aneely 0 Posted June 27, 2005 I wonder how the conversation went..."Now Ethel, if you hadn't spent so much time gazing at that china, we wouldn't be in this perdicament." "Yes, but Gertrude, you are the one who...". Another very good shot Nick - absent the bush, great. Love your B&Ws. Cheers - Alex Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted June 29, 2005 Always interesting to photograph unsuspecting subjects. They do look grumpy or maybe just tired and hungry. Alex made me smile using the names he did. If memory serves me right Ethel and Gertrude were the names used in a skit done by Red Skelton and they were two seagulls flying south for the winter. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted July 3, 2005 Nice observation and a touch of humour. I'm not convinced moving to get the bush out of the background would improve things as the white hair stands out nicely against it. Link to comment
porter_zeen 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Two people sitting on a bench???? hmmmmmmmm...I just don't know man. Doesen't work for me. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted July 4, 2005 Hi Porter, its not actually a bench - but I agree that the sentiment is just the same. Sorry that the photograph didn't work for you, but people liking different things is what makes this world (and photo.net) interesting. I always think that I have got on to something when my photographs divide opinion, and I thank you for your honesty. Fond reagrds, Nick. Link to comment
