Julius,

I'm not sure what you mean by out of focus. The eyes are tac sharp. The DOF is shallow... Is that what you mean?

Can you elaborate on overexposed? The outline of the face, eyes, and noes are there. You can see all the details of the eyes which for me is the focal point of the photo. Looking at your portfolio I see a lot of low contrast typical studio shots so I can see why you would say it's overexposed. And technically you are correct, the right side of the face IS overexposed.

Based on your statement and portfolio I have to assume you are concerned with nothing more than rules and lack creativity and emotion in your photos. I don't mean to be rude. I just want to state what I see from my perspective. I see you provide alot of technical help in your comments on other photos which is good. But when someone intentionally does something to try to create more impact/emotion a technical explination of what they did is not helpful. An explination as to why it doesn't create more impact/emotion is much more helpful.

Not all my portraits are studio stuff. Have a look at http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=283196

You are right - by "out of focus, I mean that only the left eye is in focus and nothing elese.

Good that we can have a difference in opinion without trading insults which happens quote often on the forum. Besides, let each of us do our own thing our own way. If you like the picture that's all that counts!

Julius,

I missed those photos. You appear to have two accounts, 605916 and 1436778. I only saw your photos from the 1436778 account. Your Folder 03 photos are very good!

"only the left eye is in focus and nothing elese"

I would say the hair is in focus. The right eye might a just a tad out of focus but still acceptable in my book. Myabe a half stop more closed could have helped. I don't think I would want anything else in perfect focus.

"If you like the picture that's all that counts!"

While I think such a statement is acceptable for personal snap shots when photogrophers want to go beyond that to create art to be enjoyed by others it falls short. Any sutdy in the phylospy of art will teach you that beauty/art is NOT in they eye of the beholder despite how the common saying goes.

While I do want to create photos of my daughter that I can enjoy and look back on in the future I also want to be able to communicate a sense of childhood from a fathers perspective in an artistic way that can be understood by others.
