axel-cordes 0 Posted November 5, 2001 I just wanted to have a short view into the web... you detroyed my morning plan ;-) I'm completely grabed by your portfolio! The further I go the more I'm captured by your images. This one is somehow from another world and in the same time very natural... Great! Also a candidate for POW Link to comment
gerry_clarke 0 Posted November 7, 2001 A beautiful picture if I ever so one. I am projecting when I say the following, as I do not know the area that this area where the photo was taken in but I suspect that this is something you are familiar with and the recent snowfall made its normally unseen beauty stand out. stacey_waselovich 0 Posted November 7, 2001 This is stunning. It looks so much like a painting - how did you do it? Link to comment
chris_venhaus 51 Posted November 8, 2001 I would crop more off the bottom of the image, so the shoreline intersects with the LRC. The reflection of the Pine in the foreground isn't necessary, IMHO. Link to comment
annette_hawkins_balnicky 0 Posted November 8, 2001 A most beautiful scene of undisturbed nature with a small touch of civilization. Gorgeous.Annette Link to comment
axel-cordes 0 Posted November 9, 2001 I would not crop, I like that it is "open" in the front. Link to comment
matthew_amargo 0 Posted November 12, 2001 wow. i had to check the details to convince myself it wasn't a painting. how did you get such remarkable texture? Link to comment
storm.light 0 Posted November 12, 2001 I am delighted that you have enjoyed this scene. Actually Gerry Clarke hit it right on. I travel past that location every day (even canoe past it) and had never been drawn to photographing it, though it does have some wonderful sunsets. However, driving past it on my way to work one rare snowy morning I was really struck by the scene as though I had never seen it before. I raced home, took off from work, and spent the rest of the morning shooting a couple of rolls of it. Once the snow had melted and the neighbors saw the slide, they too felt unfamiliar with the scene, and when I told them where it was they looked at me rather dubiously. Having taken a couple of rolls, I have a variety of exposures, horizontals and perspectives. Yes Chris, I do have some (particularly horizontals) with less water foreground. But at the moment I chose this one because I like water, and wanted a photograph that was primarily a waterscape (which I feel gives it a more unusual feel) and gives the boats a better sense of place. I think some of the texture comes from an underexposure that drops out (or de-emphasizes) some of the darker areas, and even color, resulting in less competition with and therefore enhancing the effect of the snow. I really had the sky and light working for me as it was just breaking up from the snowstorm. To me it was well worth a day off to have this slide. Link to comment

Jim_Tardio 0 Posted November 25, 2001 My first impression was "Christmas card"...I see someone above thought the same thing. I was immediately taken back to my childhood when I would sit by the tree and look at the pictures on the cards.Really first rate. Link to comment
abstractionphoto 0 Posted January 25, 2002 Like others, I have a hard time seeing this as anything other than a perfect painting. Your timing and enthusiasm about this everyday location really makes it timeless. Beautiful work through all the folders. Link to comment
arthur sevestre 0 Posted February 3, 2002 Cropping would be a bad idea here. The water isn't really "empty space", because its filled up with the reflection of the tree on the right side. This makes the downward curve from left to right even more obvious. Nice work! Link to comment
gecko 0 Posted October 17, 2003 extreamly beautiful. seems to be manipulated by green-toning. is that right? my pic of the week !! like a painting. Link to comment
katherine_ayers 0 Posted June 4, 2010 I wouldn't crop it either. The water draws your eye to the reflections which draws you to the shoreline and boats. Ilove this photo. Wonderful colors. Link to comment
