mg 0 Posted July 8, 2005 Interesting, Gavin, thanks for posting the original. Still no hand there, unfortunately, but the face at top left is also quite nice... In the original, what I find a bit unfortunate as well is this "grey hole" at top in the center, and the fact that the main face is quite centralized. For all these reasons, I've got to agree with you and Lannie: the way you cropped is still the best, as it emphasizes the facial expression of the main subject by minimizing all sorts of distractions. This POW is also interesting to me because it shows how to capitalize on a strong expression. Again, good catch. Regards. Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted July 8, 2005 No one said you have to like tack-sharp, well-exposed photographs of simians, who unfortunately will resemble humans no matter how hard you try to conceal it. The focus here I feel is on the eye (not the cropped fingers), which is brilliantly captured. It's always tough wortking with wildife; I had wild monkeys in front of my camera lens for two hours once, and at best, I captured a blurry thing in the shade of a rainforest - I love that you caught this. I concur that the missing hand doesn't detract for me Link to comment
yongbo 0 Posted July 8, 2005 The hand was never there. Which is missing is the foot. Do you want to see the toes? I think the crop is proper. Link to comment
luis_saavedra 0 Posted July 9, 2005 There is undoubtedly a human expression in this primate's face. A sure sign that Homo Sapiens evolved from these animals. What a portrait !. Link to comment
santosh_devdas 0 Posted July 9, 2005 Excellent photograph in all respect. The eyes are more expressive than human beings and the reflection is bonus for the photographer. Link to comment
pulok 1 Posted July 9, 2005 Very impressive capture! The eyes of the little are so sharp and expressive, it draws our attention immediately. Thank you for sharing such beautiful image. Link to comment
For it is a question of a photography, where it(he,she) goes a little beyond the light, the color and setting, it is a question his(her, your) desendientes as the love, the tenderness, the emotion and if they allow it to me, not barrier between(among) the photography and the truth of the animal(rude) world, congratulations, http://www.hectorbrandan.com/images/julio-carmona.gif Link to comment

robicherphotos 0 Posted February 19, 2007 Dear Gavin, The first thing I will do after posting my comments is take a look at your portfolio! The picture is perfect (and I do prefer the crop as published), for the following reasons in my opinion: 1. Exposure is fantastic 2. Detail! 3. The AMAZING expression on his (her) face 4. The reflection, WOWWWW ! ! ! ! ! I have rated around 1300 photos in this site, and given 7/7 to some of them, but your photo is one of the most powerful I have seen. Please accept my 8/8!! Congrats!, Roberto Link to comment
