morey_kitzman 0 Posted June 3, 2005 This is where the Passion of Christ was recently filmed. Ancient city of Basilicata featuring the Sassi where homes are carved into the rock below the main city. Link to comment
ted_white2 0 Posted June 4, 2005 A very fine photograph, by any standard. May I ask a merely technical question? How did you translate a 'chrome into black and white? Link to comment
morey_kitzman 0 Posted June 4, 2005 Thanks for your comments. Ted, I used the channel mixer to convert to BW by selecting monochrome and than playing with the red, green and blue values until a desired effect is achieved. Finally, I use the color balance to give a particular tone to the image. I printed this image on my Epson R800 on Premium Lustre paper and was very pleased with the results. Given the cost of BW processing I am increasingly more and more impressed with what can be achieved using this process to obtain bw, even from the limited dynamic range of chromes. Best regards. ron c sunshine coast, qld,a 0 Posted June 4, 2005 VERY nice pic.Great view and very good cropping. All i would try to improve is the cropping on the right (i want to see how far the cliff extends) and maybe (...*maybe*) see it in colour.I suspect it might look more real and less like art if it was in colour, but i'm guessing Link to comment
morey_kitzman 0 Posted June 4, 2005 Ron Thanks for the feedback. I will consider your suggestion about the feedback. I uploaded a color version under recent uploads. I think it retains much of the effect from bw. What do you think? Link to comment
eric_degiuli 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Wonderful texture. I'm sure it'd look great printed large. Link to comment
peten 0 Posted June 5, 2005 Normally I would mark down a photo which didn't have a main focal point but this is so full of wonderfull detail that I don't mind my eye wandering all over--I keep finding more detail. As for the colour versus mono I'm still undecided, both have their merits. The colour version makes the shot more 3d but detracts from the detail. If I had to choose one to hang on the wall then it would be the mono because it draws me in to look at the detail. The colour has more immediate impact but is less involving. Hope this makes sense.Anyway congrats on a superlative image.Regards Pete. Link to comment
