Guest Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Mike, Is this a photograph of a peice of artwork or a photo montage? I'm finding it hard to determine what, if anything, in this image is a photograph (perhaps the wings?). Without knowing, it's difficult to critique this with regard to shooting technique, PS work, etc. If I critique this as I would a painting, or other medium,(which as a painter, I have a fair amount of experience) I would have to say that is doesn't quite work for me. It has a bit of a cut and paste look vs. a true surreal look. It seems unfinished. The figure appears more "on" than "in" the environment. That of course may be your intent. I would like to know more about your technique and your goal with this one. Link to comment
mike monette 0 Posted June 1, 2005 Thank you for your critique Laurie. Most of the elements of the composite are photographs and items I have scanned. Many of them have been colorized and shadows have been added. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Mike, thanks for giving me a few details. I wouldn't know where to begin in PS to do this type of work. I'm wondering if it might be possible to work this a little further. I think what's stumping me visually is that the shadows on the figure seem to come from a very direct light source (especailly on the dress). I don't know if the shadow on the ground is consistent with that directional light. The other elements seem to be illuminated by more diffused lighting and the shadow on them (specifically the fish) is cast in a different direction. Although I'm finding it fun and interesting to evaluate, kind of like a puzzle I don't think that's what you were looking for. Anyway, I do enjoy the image for that reason. Anything that makes me stop and ponder is always appreciated. Link to comment
