Beautiful lighting and color. The bottom of

the stem is a bit too bright. I would place

the subject a bit more to the right.

Thanks for the suggeston - I agree. Take a look now.

I have darken the bottom of the stem and smoothed out the flower generally.

What do you think?

I have just discovered that this flower is a Lobelia.

I'm learning - Irv

Yeah. It looks more uniform and better. Nice job.

Oh, and thanks for the suggestion on my iris

picture. I'll try to think about it when I shoot

next time.

Dana, they are direct scans on an Epson Perfection 3170 Photo Scanner.

I take a cutting and then bring the flower to the scanner,

lay it on the glass, arrange as best possible, then do a scan,

usually at 600 to 800 ppi. That gives me lots of room to drop down

to 300ppi and, if I want, do a large print (which I'm not yet equipped to do).

I then do a little touch up and maybe sharpening in PS.

I have also started using a program called Neat Image which removes noise and, I notice with the right

settings can add a "buttery" feeling to the photo.

Give it a try. - Cheers, Irv

Thanks for the detailed explanation Irv. The effect is very beautiful. I've seen this done before and liked it, I guess I'll just have to try it for myself sometime soon. I also have Neat Image and will try it as an alternate "glow" effect. Thanks again, Dana
