kathryn 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Amazing photography. The negative space gives it a very dramatic effect. The clarity on the actual eye is amazing as well. How did you obtain the black background? Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted July 24, 2007 I would like to know what the light source is. I'm looking at the reflections in the cornea, trying to figure out if it's a window, or something else. Whether or not one likes cats, what makes it a good photo is obviously the critical aspect of the focus. We can see the foreground is beginning to lose its definition, and there is nothing in the background to distract us. But, this lack of distraction might actually be its intellectual flaw, as there is little for us to appreciate other than the near medical precision of the photography. I can imagine a whole other world of interest if the reflections in the cat's eye were clearly windows, and if the flitting shadow of a bird had been captured, or even digitally added. bhargav 0 Posted July 24, 2007 Beautiful Shot, The Big eye looks like a soap bubble. The composition makes us want to see little more of the cat below. Link to comment
sasha_zaitsev 0 Posted July 25, 2007 nice shot! congratulation! but i have one simple request you have a camera nikon coolpix 2000(2mpx) how did you take thise nice photos? Link to comment
dougie 0 Posted July 25, 2007 Such clarity and sharp focus, by the cat, as well as Kristina, great image, I immediately smiled. Looks as if the cat is watching television, I could be wrong. An award winner without doubt. Dougie Link to comment
billysyk 0 Posted July 25, 2007 This photo exemplifies the definition of simplicity through digital manipulation in a possiple approximation of 90%. The subject of this photo is a simple one. A cat. What is original here is the point of view tried to be shown. Like most photos this one has tried an original point of view. Whatever one wishes to label it, it is surely creative. I was searching through the Internet today for the varieties of cats to see if there is indeed some sub-species with such huge eyes, as the one depicted here, because the photographer here sais it's an unmanipulated image. Yesterday I did a simple test on a photo of a beautiful cat of Biliana Rakocevic member of photo.net http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5375250 What I found out is that most cats do not have such big eyes and at least 50% less in size. I may be wrong but to me if this is an unmanipulated image as it sais it is, then we have an nice creative photo of an extraordinary cat. Otherwise a creative image IMO. Many photos have manipulations nowadays and I'll not get in the discussion of what is or is not a photo, but I'll stand of the side of those who stay with a critic eye on a photo that tries to get attention. The photo does not have a story, as it's character is not the one of having to have a story. It is thought provoking though because of it's sharpness and it's original point of view of the cats eyes. It could be well be a snapshot of just another cat. Creativity of Kristina Buceatchi did not let that happen and we have something more than that. We have at least a creative image with an also creative point of view of a subject very common. And for that the photographer shows signs of success :-) Link to comment
twmeyer 0 Posted July 25, 2007 "...this lack of distraction might actually be its intellectual flaw""It is thought provoking though because of it's sharpness" Indeed, it's intellectual depth is comparable to its depth of field. While it has a nice clean palette and clever design (plenty of room for text, ie: "Cat Fancier Magazine"), I can't imagine looking at the photo every day for very long... t Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted July 25, 2007 Rarely does so much black space devoid of detail work in a photo, but it works here to force the viewer's eye back to the cat, and thus to the cat's eye. The overall composition, depth of field, and clarity of the essential core of the photo (the eye) all contribute to a truly remarkable photo. --Lannie Link to comment
hy 0 Posted July 26, 2007 Wow! Excellent point of view with an incredible light and sharpness. Unique! Best regards Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 26, 2007 This is a unique angle of a cat's "portrait". "Less is more" in this one, the transparent eye constraction is very well caught. The negative BG. makes it stand out. and the small blue on the eye's corner. Congratulation on a very nice image. Link to comment
kristina_kraft 0 Posted July 26, 2007 Super close-up and that's why the head looks abstract. Her shape disolves and focuses only on the eye. And in her lens I can see her world. Some abstract lights reflects at the lens. Inside the lens is that beautiful iris. The whole eye shines like a glass and the rest of the picture doesn't matter. Very interesting motive. Weaknesses: The whole photo pervades the low-key tones. The eye could have been bigger and with bigger reflection. 6/7. Link to comment
belinda 0 Posted July 26, 2007 Brilliant. It is difficult enough to get an image like this, cats never keep still if they know that they are being observed. I suppose it was digitally enhanced as there are photos of the same(?) cat in the folder, with different backgrounds, and it definitely does not have such big eyes. I still like the photo because the enhancement is not obvious. Well done. Link to comment
leannasreflections 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Hi Kristina, I have not had a chance to read the discussion on your photo yet...I just saw it and had to comment. It is the best picture IMHO that I have seen in a LONG time. The clarity is perfect and subject and angle is fasinating. A great job. Now I will go read the discussion and look at your portfolio. :O) Great job. Leanna Link to comment
atlatling 4 Posted July 27, 2007 A beautifull and creative image. Almost unbelievable, it is so sharp. I looked over your portfolio before making up my mind on this photo. You are not new to taking chances and being creative, and I see your cat, dog and other species represented. I would like to compare this photo with one turned about 30 to 45 degrees counter clockwise just to see if the same effect is achieved. If this were mine to do with as I pleased, I would crop the top portion with your copyright about one quarter the way from the photograph's top to the tip of the cat's nose. Just a bit too much black for me, but I really like and admire your shot a great deal. Willie the Cropper Link to comment
robert_g.1 0 Posted July 27, 2007 I dont care for cats much lately as a cat ate one of my chipmunk friends that gave great photo sessions last week , this cat looks rather innocent and may not be a hunter ? Very creative photo, and I like how we can see the eye so well , the reflection in the eye of the window is an accent to the gaze , Ive seen cats stare at windows like this often , good thinking to capture it ! dougityb 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Robert, All cats are hunters. They use their cute and cuddly personas to throw their prey off guard. Don't be decieved. Gazing out the window with this type of intensity is almost certainly at some movement, that has activated its hunting instincts. Link to comment
tonyd1 0 Posted July 27, 2007 Coloring and contrast is well done in the picture, I also like that the image of the cat takes a perfect amount of the picture. So well done on the cropping also. Link to comment
hursey 0 Posted July 28, 2007 The Clarity and Composition work really well for you here! I like the rotation and especially like the use of negative space. The simplicity and solid black background really force you to interact with the subject and wonderful textural detail! Link to comment
stoatsngroats 1 Posted July 28, 2007 A really nice composition, and such deep feelings - I've seen this kind of cat concentration. It could perhaps do with slightly more DOF, in my VERY humble opinion, - yet its the most dynamic cat shot I've seen for a while! 7/7 from me - its just great! shaun Link to comment

jeff_drew4 1 Posted August 1, 2007 I love the angle & lighting! I showed it to my kitty, who looks similar, and we discussed the photo's finer points. "Purrfect!" was her vote!"Dogs have masters. Cats have staff!" Kristina, your cat must be pleased! :-) Link to comment
