gsaramet 0 Posted May 20, 2005 Black and colourfull? Old and new? Sacred and profane? Nature or manbuilt? Transition? Rite of passage? I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder... What do YOU see? Thank you for your comments and critiques. Link to comment
blago 0 Posted May 20, 2005 Good picture, Gabriel, with a lot of juxtapositions and symbols. I'd crop it somewhat tighter, so to exclude the rightmost tulips, but it's rather a matter of taste, than a drawback. Regards. Blago Link to comment
seven 0 Posted May 23, 2005 I like the toning, and think that the rightmost tulips help lead the eye towards the cross being contemplated by the nun. I'm reminded of the WW1 poem that begins : In Flander's Field the poppies grow... and my eye endeavours to convince me that the cross is actually a gravestone which I don't think it is (this leads to a contrast between the living and the dead, past and present.) I sense passion in the contemplative sense, i.e. in the nun's desire to complete an inner journey which is aided by the smbols of her religion, forms of signposts on the way. Visually I might prefer a touch more green in the foliage, and a crop of the part of poppy which appears furthest right, just above the first step.Thoughtful image, well done. Link to comment
