mazda 0 Posted May 19, 2005 What a sad look this boy has. It makes me feel sad. Wonder what upset the boy. That must be good, eh? Is that what you intended? Link to comment
ecdiv 0 Posted May 19, 2005 This is a compeling photo. I love the light in his eyes, and the close-up framing. Nicely done! Link to comment
edbook 0 Posted May 19, 2005 seeing this image as a thumbnail, it didn't impress much but seeing it this size changed my mind, seeing the highlights in his eyes pulled me in and then the fine soft skin tones and thght cropping... cropping this tight keeps this informal and informative portrait from being boring... kjoni 0 Posted May 19, 2005 Very nice. My only comment is the boy could have been asked to turn his head a little more to the left such that the ear is not in the view and to create a more 3D like posture. mrhaydon 0 Posted May 19, 2005 A good portrait Pascal, just be careful about cropping too tight, if in doubt include all of the face if doing a head and shoulders shot. Link to comment
saddleboy 0 Posted May 20, 2005 I'm learning so much from your constructive critiques. About tight croping, i know they don't make it for everyone but i like them very much... many thanks Pascal Link to comment
tbgold 1 Posted May 21, 2005 Very nice B/W portrait. The cropping is a little too tight on the left but I'm guilty of doing that as well sometimes when I grabbing a quick shot. Link to comment
edbook 0 Posted May 21, 2005 I disagree with your comment. The tight cropping was on purpose and a very good style... sure, the top of the hat and part of his head was cropped off but they weren't needed to make the image - they don't have to be included because they are implied. Now, if the right side had been cropped, then there would be a problem... he needs space to look into and the fact that his gaze isn't at the camera but toward the space given... the close cropping is a style the photographer appears to have a very good grasp on...
