nicholasprice 0 Posted May 17, 2005 I initially thought that this image would work better in Black & White, but on reflection, I think that the high saturation of the Fuji Velvia works reasonably well. Here is the B&W version for comparrison. Regards, Nick. Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 17, 2005 Hi Nick, I think there is too much texture in BW and the big windmil gets lost. I like the colour version more, especially how it gets from green to dark green, dark green/blue, to the blue of the sky. kind regards Maria Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 17, 2005 I agree with Maria Nick, the colored version works much better in this case. Link to comment
jnicholson 0 Posted May 17, 2005 Hi Nick, I make three. I agree with Maria and Pnina. Must need one heck of a lot of wind to get that thing turning :o) All the best. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted May 18, 2005 Hello Nick, The first of these windmills were a Venitian inovation and this shot goes well with the Venitian lighthouse from a previous post, as documentation of the Venetians in Crete. What pleases me about this slendid shot, is that your windmill has no sails and the 10000 windmills on the Lasithi Plateau are as famous for their white sails as for their number. It's the kind of visual litotes in which I delight. Best wishes. Pete Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted May 18, 2005 Alas Peter, it has been a while since you have visited this wonderful place. Most windmills are abandoned now, and are noticably sail free. The only exceptions are a few kitch versions next to tacky taverners used as a feature to attract custom; and on the day I visited, this single example in the middleground of my shot! Sorry to dispell this litotic vision! Regards, Nick. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted May 20, 2005 Nick, I agree that this doesn't translate well to b&w. Great shot in colour though. I am about to have another windmill phase myself soon! Link to comment
