Looks like you used something under 85mm.

Also watch these overcast days for highlights on the nose, forehead and cheek bones and rings under the eyes.

I would have placed the subject to the right and crop to eliminate the messy hair strands on the top

Very nice. As far as the crops go, I'd say either the original, or alt 1. alt 2 style works for some portraits, but with a backdrop like the ocean, something so inheirently and emotionally huge, the alt2 style crop just feels to clausterphobic. just my $0.02

IMO the original works best (I think the space is needed). I agree on the "feeling of claustrophobia" generated by the last crop. Cheers
