lauro1 0 Posted May 24, 2005 Beautiful trio. I like the original version, because the dark background enhances the main theme. Link to comment

timohicks 0 Posted July 21, 2005 I guess I coming in on the tale end of this but the problem has little to do with croping and much to do with shadow detail. Perhaps everyone is concerned about the point of interest in your composition because the three fowls need help. Once you see them that's all there is. Your photo would be more interesting if you could pull out the details in the shadowy area which attracts concern. This area would then have a more active role in the composition rather than a passive one. Hope this helps. Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted July 21, 2005 Timothy thank you for taking the time to comment. Its nice to get differing views even though you may or may not agree with them. I mean that sincerely. I wanted this image to be about shape, form, and color. I deliberately tried to suppress texture and detail in the dark area. When all was said and done it looked almost exactly the way I had envisioned it before I took it or processed it. I admit that approach may not be to everyones taste. Which is fine. It would be a boring world if everyone agreed. Thanks again for taking time to look, rate, and comment. I appreciate all three. Larry Link to comment

mcgarity 0 Posted May 31, 2006 Jade thank you very much for rummaging around in my portfolio. Its been a little over a year since I took this. In May of 2005 I was shooting around that pond almost daily both mornings and evenings. That being the case I couldn't remember what time I took this. I had to look at the time stamp on the Raw file to see. Although the photo has the feel of late afternoon, it turns out looks are deceiving. It was actually taken just as it was getting light in the morning. Thanks again for commenting on this. Its really one of my own personal favorites. Link to comment
