hanna_cowpe 0 Posted May 15, 2005 Nicholas, it's such a wonderful piece of architecture and so many facets that I don't believe two shots would be the same, so don't worry about the cliche. I recently spent a month in Sydney and travelled across the harbour many times. Each time the weather and light was different and I shot this from every angle and distance, and none of my images look like yours. You don't even have the tops of people's head who so irritatingly bobbed up on the boat just as I was pushing the button. One of these days I'll get around to posting one of mine. Have you got more? paula grenside 0 Posted May 15, 2005 Nicholas, you never tire of watching such an amazing architectural structure and your rendering is quite good. Enjoyed it. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted May 15, 2005 Fascinating to see it from a new (to me) direction. Most shots seem to be from the direction where all the shell roofs line up. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted May 15, 2005 I think this one would work equally well in b&w or quadtones with such strong lines and nice overall contrast & tones. Link to comment
ricardo navarro 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Hi Nick. Beautifully balanced composition here, pleasing muted colours, and the lighting and contrast between the sharp lines of this extraordinary building and the soft pattern in the sky make it stand out nicely. A minor flaw, I just could live without the seagull, but otherwise a nice clean shot. Fond regards. Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 16, 2005 Hi Nick, this is a good photo, I find. Not only I like the colour harmonisation of water and sky, each with some "white in it", while the operahouse has some "blue" in its white, but also how the arrays are made on the left side. On the right side, there is more disorder, and I don't like the top of one of the vaults showing up in the middle. I'd have loved an angle with more clean vaults on the right side, but it is easy to speak, as I never was there. You know, many herose show up after the war, a Romanian proverb sais ;) kind regards Maria Link to comment
bexta 0 Posted June 15, 2005 I live in Sydney, so I see the opera house a LOT. With this shot, for a constructive critque I will say this: I think that the left white wing has been blown out, and therefore holds no textual base to it. Having white v's black, being approx 5 stops between you have exposed for the white wings, however unfortunately the details in the black have gone missing. This aspect doesnt bother me though, but I am just making a point. As for the cliche of this shot, I truely believe that from all the Opera House shots I have seen that this differs in no way in originality. I like the composition and colours, and how sharp the image is. The blue is quite nice. But there isnt anything unique to this shot for my eyes (living in aus). Although this is probably a stand out photo to anybody that hasnt been to Australia. I have taken a few opera house shots myself, well who could resist really! hehe. So I'd love for you to check out my building section in my portfolio if you have the time. :) Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
