danroman 0 Posted May 9, 2005 I don't think he is amused, not scared and either surprised by the presence of the ''dead'' on his shoulder. I would say that he's got a very relaxed mood, which makes most of the picture... Very good shot... Regards. My notes? 7/7 and I don't change my mind... Link to comment

liuyuan 0 Posted May 9, 2005 The inspiration of this work was from a painting of a Swiss symbolist artist of the 19th century. His painting was entitled "Self-portrait and the death". Death had always been his main subject. Although I love his works very much, my life so far has not been as sad as his, so here's my version. Link to comment
she 0 Posted May 9, 2005 Eerie as it may look, it's a very unique and intriguing piece of art work. Unlike any portrait photo I've seen here before. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted May 10, 2005 Very unique and interesting. I especially like the lighting on the man's face - it makes the skeleton secondary and almost an afterthought. Link to comment
j_doyle 0 Posted May 10, 2005 Yuan, Now here's a man who has clearly come to terms with his own mortality! Excellent tones, lighting. Wonderfully creative. Regards, J Link to comment

gcanyon 0 Posted May 10, 2005 I agree with Sandra's comment above....this is very unique and original work. Nothing quite like it on PN. The man's expression is perfect. He recognizes the presence of death at his shoulder, and he is not frightened by it. It reminds me of this quotation from Carlos Castenada: "Death is our eternal companion. It is always to our left, at an arm's length. It has always been watching you. It always will until the day it taps you. The thing to do when you're impatient is....to turn to your left and ask advice from your death. An immense amount of pettiness is dropped if your death makes a gesture to you, or if catch a glimpse of it, or if you just catch the feeling that your companion is there watching you." Great work! liuyuan 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Hi Wilson, thanks for stopping by. "Well seen" might not be the best way to comment on such a heavily manipulated street shot (I mentioned this in the "Technical details"). Slaved on it for one week. A learning curve but I enjoyed it very much. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted June 16, 2005 Considered it then as an utimate compliment. But didn't you just happened to capture him right in front of a painting? Very nice tonality and sidelighting on the gentleman. Wilson ^_^ Link to comment
liuyuan 0 Posted June 30, 2005 No, the painting wasn't there at all. I have no idea why this person decided to gaze away from my camera when he agreed for me to take a few shots of him. What I'm most proud about this image is that there seems to be some real connection between this artist (I presume he is although I still don't know him) and the dead fiddler. I'm glad that the side-lighting treatment worked for you too :o) Link to comment
