...the texture and color pattern of the trees' bark, and of course the black-and-white, far more effective than color for this shot. A glance at my portfolio will betray my prejudices in this respect!

Not so crazy about the border. A good image needs no such adornment in my view.

Nice job. Feedback on my work similarly appreciated.

Thank you for the feed back. I was torn between doing or not doing a border. When I was looking at it, it seamed to need a finish. Similarly some of the images I have bean impressed with have had a frame or border on them. The jury is still out on whether I will use one or not. Thank you.

I have a great fondness for trees and am always interested in the texture and colours of their bark. Birch trees are particularly suited to b&w. I'm not sure about the square format here, and wonder what frame you started with. I also find the background is a bit strong, drawing the eye away from the two foreground trunks. I wonder if cropping this from the left to a vertical to leave only two trees in the background would balance it more. This would make the smaller trunks somewhat of a 'shadow' or 'reflection' of the two main ones, complementing them rather than competing with them. Of course I could just be talking complete nonsense in which case you could ingnore this comment.

I like the border, I find it adds to the feel of the photo. I would like to see the photo with the background focussed on, instead of the immediate foreground... The trees in foreground are quite boring and don't really draw you in, but for some reason the trees in background catch more of my attention. Interesting idea and I really like the B&W. 4/6
