Went to the critique page, before all of the images opened this one jumped out at me. A fine capture of the moment.

I wonder what it was about Budapest. All of the images in the portfolio have a power to them.

Thanks Gary & Colin, I don't usually like taking grab candids, as I usually feel as though I am intruding; however, this Hungarian lady didn't seem to mind my obvious camera. She was happily smoking her cigar whilst being deeply engrosed in her conversation.

Thanks Ringo, I'm glad that my photograph had the desired effect. It was helped by the fact that I was sitting at a nearby table drinking coffee and orange juice!

Regards, Nick.

Coffee and Orange Juice ? At the same time ? Should give u inflautulence . Lol.

My first reaction on seeing this photo was kinda knee jerk. I thought it needed cropping on the left. But then , on seing your caption and getting to know the story behind it, I think its just perfect. A very nice capture of the moment. i very much like these candid street portraits which I feel could make very good editorial content.

Regards.

I agree with what Nabarun has said Nicholas. When I first looked at it I thought the left of the picture should go but then the title made sense and it should stay as it makes it fit together, Maybe you should have added the whole person that is there to take the order? Anyways Very nice picture. 6/6 and thank you for your time and comment on mine. Take care Friend.

Yes Nick, I am of the same mind as you. I do often feel I am intruding when taking candid photos. However, I am beginning to think you can get very good shots doing so. (This being an example!)

What I like about this photo is what you cannot see. I strongly suspect the waitress gave you a knowing but exasperated look at some point, as I am sure she was well aware of why you were taking the photo. A very clever, yet subtly communicated shot. Definitely do more!

I totally agree with Nabarun's comments and a cropped version would still be a very good photo. Good work. 6/6

With or without the waiter this is a gem. The bright eyes of the woman are wonderfully expressive and the body language you have captured is so dynamic.

The tantalising elements of the waiter add to the unfolding story, so on the whole, I would keep them, as a visual pararhyme.

This is another top capture, just like the tourists in Whitehall. I think your discomfort in taking "live" street shots means the ones you produce are superlative.

Best wishes. Pete

Like the first commentor noticed, there was something about Budapest!

I am jealous on your Budapest photos - I don't dare to upload any single of mine ...

I was looking for the place where you ate the gulash in this folder, and found this gem :)

Well catched moment, and very well focused (diaphragm and distance), congrats!

This is an amazing photo Nicholas! One of your best captures, you pick a moment and ... bingo! I do not like to intrude also but ... it pays off as we can see. I think that I will start doing it more and more to surpass my fears.

Hi Nick,

I've selected some of my Budapest photographs for upload, in the Hungary folder of my portofolio (there is also one from Kecskem鴮

Please feel free to tell your oppinion (comments, ratings ...)

They are quite architecturally directed - except of the St. Stephan church, which is a rather touristic highlight (BTW I find thar urbanistically Budapest has similarities with central London, and the role of this church in the cityscape belongs to these), I made photos inspired by my work on Avantgarde architecture in Hungary.

Enjoy! and thank you for your interest

Maria

PS: More to come, later on.
