Vinta 3

This is a traditional filipino dance called "Vinta" which represents

the immigration of the first settlers of the Philippines Islands from

the Malay region. I took this shot at a performance done by the

Pilipino Cultural Exchange of Cal Poly State University.

I like the catch light in her eyes and the composition is great here. I don't know if I like the elongated fingers look caused by motion blur yet. I think I would like to see it closer. It would be a very neat effect if that were the only purpose of the photo. 6/6

Thanks, Derek! Shooting this event was pretty challenging for me considering that I was glued to my seat in the theater. I didn't have the freedom to roam around to compose my shots, so I just relied on whatever "fell into frame." I was disappointed with the motion blur myself, but in this part of the dance she was moving fairly quickly.

I have tried taking shots at these kinds of events to so I know how hard it can be. It seems like a take 200 shots and come out 20 useable images.

Exactly! I actually filled up both my 1 GB memory cards! I'm debating whether to: a) get more 1 GB cards, b) get more 2 GB cards, c) get a DigiBin, d) some combo of all the above. :)

The long fingers aren't a product of motion blur. They are actually an ornament worn by the dancer. From my little knowledge of this particular dance, long nails were a luxury of the royalty.

the very tips of the fingers look pink to me. I thought it was because of motion blur mixing the golden finger coverings and the pink of her hand. I could be wrong.
