mikesoliman 0 Posted May 2, 2005 This is a traditional filipino dance called "Vinta" which represents the immigration of the first settlers of the Philippines Islands from the Malay region. I took this shot at a performance done by the Pilipino Cultural Exchange of Cal Poly State University. Link to comment
keithsnyder 0 Posted May 2, 2005 Really nice! Wonderful traditional clothing, and the position of the dancer against the blue back ground is a real eye-catcher. Same for the other two photos, with the additional compositional elements in them. 6/6 Link to comment
gnat 0 Posted May 3, 2005 While I love the photo, sadly, I cannot view it without being reminded of protagonist in the movie "Edward Scissor Hands." Link to comment
mikesoliman 0 Posted May 3, 2005 Thanks for the comments! From my little knowledge of this particular dance, long nails were a luxury and symbol of the royalty of this time. Granted, it'd be difficult to do anything with nails that long, but being royalty, I guess they had servants doing everything for them. Link to comment
