Identity?

haris

250ms, f/32, iTTL on-board flash. Two images combined into one to extend DOF--front and back of the spider are from two different shots. Shot at 1:1 magnification ratio in portrait orientation and what you see full frame horizontally. Some empty space cropped from the bottom.

This is shot on the ceiling of my kitchen and flipped 180 degrees. I

have many questions:

- How do I identify the spider?

- How to improve detail on the back of the chest?

- Is flash shadow to distracting? Would an off-camera light directly

above the arachnid have helped? Diffuser?

- I cropped the front leggs which were long and out of focus. How

does that affect the picture?

Any other suggestions or comments?

Yes the flash is distracting! I assume that this spider wasn't really going to wait for you to get defused lighting and prepare for the shot so I guess you do what you have to do. I would suggest going out or stay in and find objects to shoot with your macro. It's not as easy as it looks and getting good focus entails slow shutter speeds and very large f-stops (22 to 45) to get much depth of field. Good luck with your projects and hope to see more work from you soon.

Does anyone think that the shadow is interesting at all? Some time has passed since I posted this picture and now I think that the shadow may add to the menacing image of the killer subject. What do you think?
