PT, I like this interpretation of parallels, very innovative! Aesthetically it is good as well. If I have further thoughts I will stop by again.

This is a neat interpretation PT. I appreciate the subject matter and composition. The exposure, after your conversion, requires some work though. I could tell it was a conversion before reading your technical details.

I straight conversion (e.g. desaturation) alone will always produce an image with too much grey, and it will lack near-white. There's an easy way to overcome this. In a programme like Photoshop, choose selective colours : concentrate on grey/neutral/ black and white channels. Increase the black in the image, slightly increase the white, and play around with the grey/ neutral. For this image I would increase the contrast.

I'm not on my computer with PS or I might have been able to upload an example. However, if Blagoy travels this way he might oblige - after all, he taught me the best way to execute colour to mono conversions.

Anyway, good shot - but do think about playing around with the exposure. Cheers, Seven.

Great interpretation indeed!

As Seven hinted, a tad more contrast would be nice. Also, I find the aspect ratio a bit weird; next time you might try and get the subjects a bit closer to each other. Apart from that I have no gripes.

It's easy to be kind on this one, PT! (but being nice is not really what PT is about ...)

Congrats, PT!

Nicely done, PT! Theme fit in a clever and beautiful composition. Agree with Seven and Tom a little more contrast would be better. (Thanks, Seven! I've learned a lot from your pictures and comments, too. That's why we are here, in PN and PT, -- to learn and share.)

About using the Selective Color tool to improve the contrast. I'm finding it convenient, though I've never read somebody to recommend it. Usually it's used for pre-printing adjustments. What I've learned from practice: bigger file -- better results. Otherwise the image could get pixelated.

For this image, I think, Curves could do the job.

Outstanding picture, PT! Regards. Blago

With so many parallel photos in this folder it's really nice to see this one, so different from the rest. Congrats on the photo. If this IS your first upload (could this be a trick guys? or from a member who's been commenting without submitting for months?), I hope we'll have the pleasure of many more - an excellent start.

The matching headboards prevent getting closer (you'd loose the symetry), so I can't think of any improvements to compostion.

Only improvement I can think of is a pillow for dad, much more comfortable too! As for pijamas ...

Very human, and with a nice touch of humour. Well done PT.

PT, thank you very much for introducing this interpretation in the folder! Finally a parallel I like, not as the many mathematical and cold interpretations. It's sublime!.

The similarity on the expresions is remarkable with a nice touch of humor. The poor dad certainly felt asleep of being tired of much working, while the little baby is just starting another 4h sleep round. The deeper meaning of parallels... growing old vs. growing up, so much work vs. so much peace.

(And for my math addicted PT's, I'd like to point you to the patterns on the back, where some of the shapes are a set of horizontal or vertical parallel lines :-) ).

Aesthetics: Good, I only wish both head rest would be at the same height.

Cleverness ....and Validity with respect to the theme: in this case go together, I enjoy that they are not only parallel in the way they rest but also because being father and son.

has the image interest beyond PT and the assignment?: yes, this is a photo that any father would enjoy having.

I wonder: composition wise, would it have been important who was on which side? (I imagine that the baby was not willing to wake up and change sides and kindly fall asleep again :-) )

Cristian, I think, the original placement of the two sleepers is better. Usually we look first in the upper left corner of the page/picture. (At least in Europe and America we read like this and it's a habit.) We find here the sleeping father and following his "look" we go to the babe. The viewer's sight is moving naturally from left to right along the main diagonal. Another reason is the two black pillows in the original look like a roof of a house, thus making the connection between the sleepers even more stronger -- on the same (double) bed and under the same roof. I like the first picture best too.

It's more "true to life" for me.

Bravo on a first upload PT.

Glad you could join in.

Fits the theme no doubt about it. good thinking on this PT, very imaginative. Just curious, was that a setup??

Coming late in the discussion but I couldn't pass this one without leaving a note: I spent the last month looking for parallels, both litteral and more subtle ones (I'm no PT member but I like your assignments), but nothing I could come up with comes close to this one for theme fit. It's also the best baby pics I've seen on PN. Keep posting!

I am late too, I have been in the Eastern Island last week and I did not come near to a computer, but at least I want to say something about this photo. I like the one with more contrast it conveys a stronger message. It is funny besides having other meanings pointed above. A very clever and original interpretation for parallels.

Many thanks for all the great comments. To answer some questions. This is my first posting. My daughter Abigail was already asleep in our bed. I set the camera up and asked my wife to press the shutter when I was in position. (so really there may be some copyright infringements on this image)I came up with low contrast R60 G30 B10 on the channel mixer because I had tried a higher contrast setting and felt that another parallel was the hair colour and on a higher contrast image my hair seemed to blend with the background a little.

And just if you were wondering I did ask my wife to pose EXACTLY as I am posing but she wouldn't have any of it! And for those of you easily offended I did think about posting this with a nude catagory.

Once again many thanks for all the kind comments. This was the first download but probably not the last. You have been warned...

I am completely and utterly obssessed no wait- opressed- no offended by your showing yourself partially nude perhaps fully nude for all we know.

First down/upload isnt all that hard after all, huh? Of course, I've been participating for months and havent downloaded yet. except for that water series- those were mine (not) ;)

You did open a door to a question I have often wondered. If you set up the shot but arent the one who pressed the button is it really your shot anymore. I suppose it would be like a song writer who has their songs sung by other- still his song. Makes for an interesting thought process, at least for me.

I have no answer to that question but I have another question to replace it. If you setup the shot and use a tripod to hold the camera, does the tripod take credit? Is photography in the eye or in the finger?
