m_ahuja 0 Posted April 25, 2005 Thanks for the ratings and the critique. Does anyone know what hawk this is ? Link to comment
j_doyle 0 Posted April 26, 2005 Very nice shot. I'm certainly no bird expert, probably many birders on line here who might provide a more definitive identification. My untrained eyes think it looks like it might be a Cooper's Hawk. Please see: http://www.illinoisraptorcenter.org/Field%20Guide/cooper.html Link to comment
phongkim 0 Posted April 26, 2005 Great shot! How did you get so close without him flying away? Link to comment
m_ahuja 0 Posted April 26, 2005 Thank you Jerry, Doyle & Kim. On another fora, the vote has been for it being a Juvenile red tailed hawk. I think thats what it is too. Kim, I think this was right after migration. So he would hunt in the evenings and wouldnt mind be being close to him for some reason. He seems to have pushed off now. And thanks once again. If yall can think of any ideas that I can try out next time, that be wonderful too! Link to comment
kerry_grim 2 Posted November 24, 2008 Excllent photograph of an immature Red-tailed Hawk. Belly banding on a light chest is the obvious giveaway. I've seen 1000's and the plumage is typical for the species here in the Eastern U.S. Light banding on the tail prove it an immature. Link to comment
