Placing the background out of focus (by using a relatively large aperture) causes the in-focus foreground subject to appear sharper and more three dimensional. This attempt at that effect was done with the Leica M6TTL, 90mm Elmarit-M, EliteChrome 100, late afternoon light, handheld.
