This is an interesting arrangement. I find very inspiring the way the rocks become water through the logical link of that puddle on top of a third rock.

Jeff, first compositionally, the balance here feels good. Beyond that, what I like is the subtle variance in color temperatures bouncing off this lovely wet sand. I am also rather partial to the tension between these two leading stones and that one is warm and the other cold. Then with the final stone this tension is resolved.Beautiful work Jeff...

Thanks for the feedback folks. I am enjoying these more abstract images. It's good to know that it's not just me going senile.

I like the transitions between rocks, water, tones and light. I also like the firm, regluar layers and square shape of the middle rock, especially when set against the rock and water circles behind it. It's a great series, Jeff.

Great in many ways - mostly wonderful colors and light. Is there an uncropped version of this available...? Again, I suspect a square may be even better...

Marc, I compose square and crop in camera so if I ever post a shot that isn't square, it will almost always be because there was some element that I couldn't get right. In this case, I think that there were some rocks in the bottom right that were intruding. I'll dig the tranny out and check.

Right. I hope we'll have a good surprise with the transparency then... I have to say that I like the square format very much for suchpeaceful scene, precisely because the square is know to fit well the expression of peace and harmony. Therefore I almost feel something is not quite matching between formand content when I see an "almost squarish" format. Admittedly, this is probably something subjective, but well, I strongly feel for squares in such cases - can't help it...:-)

Marc, here's the next one, cropped top and bottom. I found the raw scan and did a very quick and dirty job on it just to show the full frame. This one definitely benefits from the crop. There are times when a zoom would be a great help as I have an aversion to stomping around in puddles but there are only so many places around the edges to stand.

Marc, both work for me. Perhaps its because I shoot square so often that I prefer the occasional different crop. The square one feels more open, and probably more peaceful now that I see it but it would never have occurred to me.

Thanks for pointing out the potential.
