a. a. 1 Posted April 7, 2005 The saturation is just perfect. 6/7 Cheers Misha PS: The left bike is very important for the composition. I wish we had all of it in the frame and then some. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted April 7, 2005 Thanks Misha, I'll have a look at the original, and see if I caught it on the day! - If I did, I'll repost it. Regards, Nick. Link to comment
apotheker 0 Posted April 8, 2005 hi nick, out of curiosity i played with some crops of this image. one has the 2 center bicycles, and the other just the 1 in front of the sign. they tighten up the image quite abit but do not know if the 4 bicycles are an important matter for you. btw... i noticed ben had moved the sign via layers etc. the image looks real nice. oh to have the time and abilities, and be 33 again. within 0 Posted April 8, 2005 Nick, Very nice shot looks as if some of the staff wish to leave faster than the others, maybe it because they will be working late? I do like lighting and over all colour. The shot has proprioeption and spatial awareness. Now for my shot that you commented on. What you see on the right of the shot is a cactus. As it is set in the desert it seemed only right that it was in the shot. plus that it was what I hiding be hind to take the shot. Hope you still like the shot. Many thanks for your time and imput it's a great help so,THANK YOU! Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted April 8, 2005 I like the light in this making the bikes look quite saintly! Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted April 9, 2005 Nicholas, I like the shot and the light. I'd have taken the last bike on the right away. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted April 9, 2005 Thanks Everyone for your kind comments, especially as some many of you are such good photographers. The interresting light comes from this shot being taken on a very bright day, however the light here is warm and reflected, bouncing off the sandstone walls, as these bikes were chained up in a little covered archway between two bright courtyards. Paula, I considered such a crop, but in the end, I didn't think it was so dramatic, mainly because of the new placement of the "Staff Only" sign within the frame. Perhaps I was wrong? Regards to you all, Nick. Link to comment
amalgamfoto.hu 0 Posted April 9, 2005 Beautiful colors, great composition. I like this. Thanks Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted April 9, 2005 Oxford is a University town, and everyone, but everyone ride bucycles, even the University Staff! But parking is in very short supply, so hallowed parking for bicycles are fiercly guarded, and wo betide the student who defies the proctors! Please feel free to critique. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted April 9, 2005 I like this a lot. I do not like the crop. That said, the bike to the left is just out of the picture which is a tad annoying. The bike to the right is also a tiny little bit annoying. All that said, this is really a wonderful photograph. Well done! Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted April 9, 2005 Thanks Gabor, thanks David, its great when such good photographers such as yourselves like my work. David, I agree about the bicycles, and as mentioned above, I think the original has the whole bike on the left, I'll see if I can rescan it. The bikes on the right were a little "messy", but I don't think that I can do much about them - such is life! Regards, Nick. Link to comment
Todd Kowalski 2 Posted April 10, 2005 Hi Nicholas, personally I like the origional image as posted, but that is me, and I don't like to mess with any image post shooting anyway! You have a good eye! Regards, Todd Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted April 10, 2005 Yes, Nicholas, try to resacan. Only three bikes crop doesn't work. To me what had to be left out was just the half hidden bike on the right. Link to comment
ricardo navarro 0 Posted April 10, 2005 Nicholas, you really upload photos at a pace difficult to keep up with! Nice and effective simple shot here, a few homogeneous elements standing out against a uniform and pleasing-colour background. If there is a bit more of the left bike in the original frame I think that rescan is really worth it, as it would improve the symetry and round off the composition, and in passing you might consider reducing contrast a tad, which looks a bit excessive to me. Best. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted April 10, 2005 Thanks for everyones kind comments and advice. I have rescanned the image, as I had inadvertantly cropped the original image, and I have reposted it above. Here, I include a copy of the original posting, so that others can see what the helpful comments above refer to. Regards, Nick. Link to comment
