Just getting into a little more serious photography. I'm in the

process of learning how to use the Olympus E-10 effectively. I'd

appreciate any constructive comments.

Thank You

I'd like it better if more of the plants in the forground showed, even if it means giving up some sky area. This would also prevent the "splitting down the middle" look.

You've probably heard about the "rule of thirds" (If you haven't - look here), So you might try cropping a bit to conform to that. I've attached one possible cropping. The rule of thirds is really just a guideline, and I'm not entirely sure that the new cropping is better than your original, but it might be worth playing around with cropping it a bit to see if you can come up with something you like better.

But the colours and the reflections are quite nice... I'd be tempted to paint out the streetlight beside the building myself, though.

Hope this helps.

Normally you want the main subject (the house and its reflection) to be off center and you don't want the water line to cut the picture in half, but I think this picture works very well.

There are interesting symmetries both vertically, because of the reflection in the lake, and horizontally, because the trees and clouds on either side of the house have similar shapes, with a tall leafless reflected tree next to the house helping to separate both sides. The plants in front give the picture some depth and framing, without interfering with this symmetry.

The symmetry is what makes this picture great.

In addition there is good color, good focus front to back and a nice soft quality to the picture.

I really like it.

Thanks for the comments and the link for the Third's Rule. That explained it a lot better. All comments help in the learning experience.

Thanks again

Thanks. I cropped the photo to take it off center with the sky and cloned out the light pole. Hopes it looks better.
