jon thornton 0 Posted April 4, 2005 I like the triangle created by the gull, the sun and the ice in the foreground. There is something slightly surreal about the light in this image. I like it a lot. Link to comment
richard_mittleman1 0 Posted April 4, 2005 Very nice, but the chances of getting a gull in focus in that part of the frame is very remote. Was the gull added in post production Link to comment
johannes_eriksson 0 Posted April 4, 2005 Thanks for the comments, everybody. Richard: yes, this is a combination of photos. The gull was shot in the same place and occasion (yesterday), but with a bit longer focal length. Link to comment
richard_mittleman1 0 Posted April 4, 2005 Johannes, I for one feel very strongly that images that are composites should be clearly identified as such. Link to comment
johannes_eriksson 0 Posted April 4, 2005 Agreed, therefore it was not marked as "unmanipulated". I also just added a note in the "technical details" field. Link to comment
gdanmitchell 0 Posted April 4, 2005 It is a very impressive image. However, I also have a problem with the gull. I do not necessarily have major issues with manipulation to create a more effective image. (I have a shot of some shorebirds at Pt. Lobos in which I increased the size of the birds and lowered their position in the sky a bit.) In this case, the light on the gull is not consistent with the position of the sun - the gull appears to be lit from the side. I don't mention this for technical reasons, but rather because it jumped right out at me. Regardless, the composition is very effective. Dan Link to comment
awais 0 Posted April 4, 2005 Great creation. Very good and lovely image. Gull is the life for this image, I agree with Don to care for light on gull, any how without gull this image becomes lifeless. Link to comment
wheely 0 Posted April 5, 2005 Personally, I think it's a lovely shot with great shapes and contrasts. I very much appreciate your honesty regarding the gull too. When I first saw this shot I thought, what a beautiful shot, shame about the gull. It's probably a personal thing but I think you've taken such a great shot, it doesn't really need that little chap in there.I'd like to see a gulless version :) Link to comment
johannes_eriksson 0 Posted April 5, 2005 Mark: thanks for commenting. I've uploaded a gulless version, with the horizon also straightened: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3256143 Link to comment
wild nature 0 Posted February 13, 2009 I particularly do not like "Digital Compositions". A photograph is what it is...... otherwise, anything you create in the computer by adding elements to it is just a digital composition and not a photograph. The original photograph without the gull is a very nice image by itself simply on the basis of the great light and elements in it. Lets keep it real !. Link to comment
michael_thebo 0 Posted February 13, 2009 I like the composition, but looking at the image I immediately thought "was that bird added in photoshop?". And it was... probably you would prefer if I couldn't tell by looking. Link to comment
