nicholasprice 0 Posted March 23, 2005 At last, the Pharoh's burrial chamber. This room, at the heart of the Pyramid, is much bigger than my little 50mm lens shows. Which is remarkable really, considering that at one time it was full to the brim with treasure! Alas, all that is left now, is the broken outer granite sarcophagus, which was carved in situ, and was too big for the tomb robbers to steal! This chamber was a welcome relief, as thanks to Egyptian ingenuity, there is always fresh air coming from a number of ventilation shafts, thought to allow the Pharoh's soul to escape the Pyramid to enter the after-life. It was however still very hot, and the only way out, was the way I came in, but this time, against the tide of visitors on their way up! - It was certainly worth all the trouble, and I heartely recommend a visit. As before there was very low light, and the camera was once again braced against the wall of the tomb for this shot. This photograph was taken in section "j" on the map. Regards, Nick. ned1 0 Posted March 24, 2005 I seem to remember reading that Napoleon once spent the night there. I can imagine him standing about where the the tourists are, staring down into the sarcophogus and wondering who would visit his own tomb in three thousand years. Link to comment
aneely 0 Posted March 24, 2005 Nick, In addition to enjoying your excellent photographic skills, through your eyes and viewpoint you allow me to visit places I'll probably never see in person. Tough shot for available light, but you've captured the essence of the chamber. Link to comment
