andrewpgrant 0 Posted March 23, 2005 B+W version posted for Paul Scott, who was kind enough to take the time to ponder what it would look like... Link to comment
dem_photos 0 Posted March 23, 2005 Nice composition, and interesting to see just a small bit of action in an otherwise static photo. Link to comment
louise bridge 0 Posted March 23, 2005 I'm afraid I prefer the B & W version because to me, quite candidly, the tables look like little flat-top toad stools due to their mushroomy color in the color version. Although the restaurant staff setting tables are more visible in the color version, the B & W version emphasizes the pattern of the tables' lay-out, which is a diagonal at right angles to the sunlight, which impact to set the eye circulating within the image. It makes me laugh to see the castle tower's form echoed in the restaurant's tall lamps (or perhaps they're heaters). Link to comment
andrewpgrant 0 Posted April 2, 2005 Thanks for that great feedback, Louise - it is really helpful. (PS. Yes, they're gas heaters)! Link to comment
elina_kangas 0 Posted April 3, 2005 And I like the colour version better :-) For me the "grey" version is too confused. And the apples (or something) are more visible in the tree :-)Good composition and the action by the men is really good. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 22, 2005 Andrew, I'm as well for the color version. The color of the brown constraction and the bright set of tables is better accentuated on that version as well as the tree that is nearly lost in the B/W version. I like the rays of the sun, and the movement ofthe man setting the table. Nice composirion. Pnina Link to comment
andrewpgrant 0 Posted May 23, 2005 Thanks Elina and Pnina. I think I like the colour version better too... you can get a better feel for the early morning freshness, I think. Link to comment
louise bridge 0 Posted May 24, 2005 I have a brighter impression of this image than I did earlier, which makes the tossing of the tablecloth and the fruits in the trees and windows of the castle more visible than before. So I have a different impression now and therefore now prefer the color version of this image. Except for the burnt out bright patch just below midway on the right edge facing me. So, tell me, have you made changes to the image? Or did I just get a different impression this time? I have looked at this image repeatedly since writing my first critique, but now it seems different, better. Cheers. -Louise. Link to comment
andrewpgrant 0 Posted May 26, 2005 No, no changes... but it is an image that has grown on me over time also (it's about 3 years old now)... except I hadn't really noticed the burned out part on the Piazza before, but now that you mention it... ugh!!! Thanks for the feedback, I'm overjoyed that this is a photo you've felt like coming back to :-) Link to comment
