ditto scott above: gorgeous, and what else can i say! very national geographic-esque (in some of their finer moments anyway). looks like something out of a photo-essay from TIME or Washington Post (a subject ideally done in b/w).

I've looked at your other work, you have some very nice people images. If you look at your portfolio closer you'll see that the better pictures were taken with shorter lenses. Personally, I prefer your images taken with the 35, it lets you get closer and be more "intimate" with the subject. The 85 is probably less suitable for that which shows in the above post. You got a glance from the boy which made the shot but the woman's pose did nothing for the picture, not to mention the upper left corner. I think a better approach would be to casually approach the couple from the left and shot "from the hip" with the 35. The kid would watch you no matter what, you'd get a better positioning of the woman, and exposure would be more consistent. By the way, don't you think this image would work better in color?

Thanks for your comments guys. Some good points Ed. I'll clarify a few things. The Turkish stuff was shot 12 years ago. I'm digging out old Kodachrome and seeing them "new" again by turning them into BW. A bit of an experiment on my part. Regarding the Kurdish family, they invited me into their home to shoot whatever I liked. I couldn't stay for long however but got what I could.

As far as exposure is concerned, I'm pretty good at nailing that on the head. If it's dark then there are two reasons for it. The viewers monitor calibration/brightness and/or I wanted it dark. On my monitor it looks fine.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
