Rapids at Stony Brook

I took this picture at an upstate NY state park recently. I would

like your opinions on composition, exposure etc. Also please feel

free to check out and critique my other work, I just added many

pictures to my scenics folder. Thanks in advance for your time!

Pretty shot..I think you captured the feeling of the spot.

 

Suggestions: crop out the small patch of sky at the top and possibly a little off the right. Also needs slightly sharper focus and clarity throughout the picture.

I realy like this photo. I think there are a number of key items that contribute to it's success... The exposure is great, the framing is perfect, there is a very limited amount of bright sky that doesn't burn out the image, I love the foreground leaves and wide depth of field, the path of the stream leads the eye through an s curve to toward the break in the leaves. I think you did a wonderful job on a good photo op. I am compelled to check the rest of your portfolio.

Keep in mind that when critiquing images, often the sharpness is a problem of the scan, and not the original image. Some of us can't afford top notch scanners to do justice to our work.

That brings up a good question...are we not supposed to comment on sharpness issues on this forum because of the possibility of sub-par scanners?

 

 

it's so hard to come up with a different shot to convey Fall. This is well done.

I think this has been shot too wide. A crop at the bottom and on the right improves it for me. You have much better stuff in your folder.
