gcanyon 0 Posted March 18, 2005 My 2-year grandson was mesmerized watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on a portable DVD player with wireless headphones. It is amazing to me that such technology is available. But then.....I took this photograph on a digital camera, and am sharing it with you on the internet. More amazing yet. As always, thank you for your comments and critiques. Rick Link to comment
paulmutch 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Great photo. I never realized the light from a LCD screen was so nice! Keep up the good work. Link to comment
tao1 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Rick, this is a great shot. Great composition, and the lighting from the video was perfect illumination for the boy's face (I assume no flash). You even picked the exact right time in the video, during a frame that everyone would recognize. Kudos. I'll bet he didn't even notice you taking the shot. This is one you will have to show him when he is an adult. Imagine what the tech world of his kids will be like. Link to comment
amélie 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Super capture, he is quite intent isn't he? ;))) The light from the monitor illuminates his sweet face beautifully. Link to comment
j_doyle 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Rick, I really love this image. It enters this little boy's internal world in a very intimate, sensitive way. At that age, fantasy is so real, so alive, and we have a sense here that the little boy is totally involved...that, for the moment, nothing else exists except himself and Snow White. Wonderful, evocative image! J Link to comment

liuyuan 0 Posted March 19, 2005 He's mesmerized by the fairy tale, and we by the very creative use of light. What a lovely and intriguing scene! You've got to be happy with this one. What did the little one say about the pic? I noticed that for the b&w version you opted for a more contrasty image. So I'm sure you decided to do something different on this colour version. Just for a comparision, I couldn't help doing a little curve adjustment and adding a gradient from the right to see how it works to draw more attention to the face. I also did a tad tighter cropping at the top and bottom. What do you think? Link to comment
gcanyon 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Hi Liu, I like your changes. It tightens up the image, and focuses greater attention on his face (which now has a bit more contrast). Thanks for the suggestion! Rick Link to comment

gcanyon 0 Posted March 20, 2005 Hi Ibrahim, Here is the original of the photograph. The highlights on Snow White were lost in the original capture because the exposure time was 1/2 second (it was dark where he was watching it). So...I had to add back the image and then blend it in.
