ABQ Snow Storm #2

jenna_g

We had a big storm move through town. I caught the last major part of it this morning. This image was taken a minute or so after the first one. I welcome constructive comments.

I really like how you got this one: the wall has texture, but little interest, therefore the attention goes to man on the right... who also looks somehow compressed... results in something quite disturbing, which I find very interesting.

If you would have got it with the "rule of thirds", it would have been a hell boring shot... but like this... well, I really like it!

I like the general idea/concept, but I wish more of the Man and less of the wall. But I like the snow!

Thanks all for your comments.

It had snowed heavily Sunday evening and a lot of schools & businesses were closed Monday (I didn't work) so I headed downtown. This was the last blast of heavy snowfall and it only lasted about 10-15 minutes and we got nothing more than a few light flurries afterwards. I had parked my car several blocks away and this was the first group of people I encountered. About a dozen people were here waiting for the bus and most were trying to shield themselves from the snow. My first few shots were into the storm, which was blowing southeasterly. From this angle I was better able to keep my lens dry and the snow looks quite different coming down.

This is probably my favorite of the 20 or so "snow coming down" shots I got. I framed this in a way that would emphasize the snow coming down as well as the man trying to shield himself from it. I have a few shots in this area that have more of the person, but the snow seems less signficant. I left this area looking for a black backdrop and people, but by the time I found it the snow had tapered off.

Thanks again!

Jenna, I really like this shot- hard to explain in words why I feel drawn to it- but well done.

The only thing I find bothersome is that this image appears slightly distorted, not that that matters. It's still a great shot.

Harsh and cold. Brrrrr.

Very nice work. It is really snowing and the composition is something extra. Kind regards

Agree with all the positive feedback - also good to see the skill developed in doing your mono conversions, Jenna.

Hi Seven,

This one looks nice printed. As for conversions, I'm better but still not as consistent as I would like to be. I think I need to recognize what works better in color and try not let my personal preference for B&W persuade me to change what should be left alone. This one works much better this way, but that's not always the case.
