afs760bf 0 Posted March 18, 2005 It's nice to see that Sergio De Batista has posted the same photo, albeit a slightly cropped version. Great fun, this name thing. Maybe it will help, after all. I'm going to have to think of something original, but the problem is that my photos probably aren't good enough to be posted once, let alone twice. Link to comment
janetlee 0 Posted May 2, 2005 I'm so jealous! I would love to see one of these beauties in the wild. Owls are so cool! Perfect capture! I really like the background just how it is. The DOF is great! Link to comment
hansdans 0 Posted September 28, 2006 A beautiful photo! All perfect so to say. To the cropping idea I think that is so much up to likings between individuals and knowledge of these birds. I would leave to the photo all that supports the info of the natural habitat of the animal as the composition is good as it is. Best regards, Hannu Link to comment

edith_frederick 0 Posted August 18, 2007 Jim, this image is photography at its best. I admire the way you intuited this possibility after the storm. Since you knew the owl so well, I think he knew you equally well and was willing to linger with you in this long, quiet look of mutual regard. The way you have framed and not cropped this image is perfection! Your natural framing has beautiful portrait composition and living gesture -- for example the three pine branches behind the owl, each with its own natural gesture, each visually recommending a different aspect of the owl to our attention. I admire the ample foreground you provide under the owl. The fluffy snow texture seconds the downy softness of owl's breast feathers and more. As I visually absorb the photo frame whole, the pine-pierced snow patterns and the branch patterns "read" so similar in weight, distribution and color to the owl's winter feather camoflage. Your beautiful capture shows us the owl beautifully color coded to blend into its winter home environment. Thank you for sharing a rare experience with such skill! Link to comment
leif_goodwin8 0 Posted September 29, 2007 Excellent. I think it is an achievement to get such a good picture. Link to comment
hakon_soreide 0 Posted September 29, 2007 The background bokeh was a bit "nervous" and distracting from the main subject. I don't think I'd have cropped this as others have suggested, but a bit of background blur to make the branches behind the owl a bit more buttery smooth would have made this a better image for me. Apart from that, excellent work. Link to comment
