I am brand new at photography. Any comments/critiques would be

greatly appreciated. I have only the basics in equipment...a Minolta

Maxxum 5 with a 28-80mm lens. Thank you.

Hi Julie - If you are truly only just beginning, then you've started nicely. Your use of color here is quite effective. I like the fact that you used a shallow depth-of-field, and the angle of the daisy is pleasing.

 

Minor pick - I wish the very tip of the bottle had been included in the frame. It's a minor omission, but it would help complete the photo. However, I do like the way the daisy explodes out of the top and right side of the frame. I guess it's that the bottle helps to ground the composition and part of it is missing.

 

In any case, you've done a nice job here. And I don't usually even click on flower pics!

I truly am a beginner! I just finished a 25hr. course and bought my first SLR camera a couple of months ago. I have studied other peoples' work for years though...and I am very keen so I do devote a lot of time and effort into shooting. Your comments are very helpful and encouraging. Thank you! I was disappointed that there were no photographs in your portfolio:)

Julie- I love this shot! The color really grabs me, especially against the neutral background. Excellent perspective, you must have been a photographer in some past life! If you have photoshop or some other similar tool, I would clean up the little dust on the petals and the bottle. Keep up the good work, your sense of style shows enormous potential. :)~
