I do believe this image demostrates how a fair and well executed manipulation can bring a winning image from an ordinary one. Another think i really like abt this picture is its minimalism... water and sky are almost fading out compared to boats and their reflections. Colors are sature but not too much, contrast is reduced to allow the dream-like effect. On the other hand let's just don't understimate how much experience it takes to carry out a proper manipulation, at least as many as it is needed to shoot one or many acceptable images to be used as starting point. My congratulations to the elves for having avoided to draw a precise line of demarcation between photo, and pure illustration: this image is a mixup of the two genres and could be used as mark to decide one or another, but taken in its whole is a genre itself.

I agree, asthetically it is a magical image with dreamy qualities and precise composition. If i am to make a personal comment on the image i must say it doesn't engage me on any level other than that of a compositional one.

I love photos of the week that draw me into an emotional encounter.

Sure there is no doubt this image is beautiful, well done tamtam, i just don't find it very moving.

I love the aesthetics of this picture - it gives the viewer a very peaceful feeling. I'm becoming a very big fan of your work, Tamtam.

Without any doubt, very creative. Aestheticly the image is intriguing, almost queer, but it does not engage me. The image's impact is limited to its technical merits of composition and computer manipulation; the image does not bring out any emotion in the viewer. 7 for originality, 4 for aesthetics.

Mike, there is, essentially, no 'there' there. How much of 'there' is there is hard to tell, but I'll bet if you were 'there', you'd be disappointed and wish you somewhere else.

Now if the whole point is to present a 'there' that is clearly the stuff of our imagination, then the impact would be much stronger if our first reaction could be sustained, rather than lasting for, oh, about a second, before we recognize that we, well, have been had.

The boats look kind of like models. Are they? Once I noticed the cloning, the image lost what appeal it had. Nothing against digital manipulation, per se, but it should be skillful. This is a little obvious.

I find it appalling that someone, who is not me, could create such a beautiful work of art. It truly is a dreamscape. Simply disgraceful! (wink, wink)

the sky is an inversion of this:http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3208814

...or perhaps that "picture" contains an inversion of this sky. more importantly, the first or second thing to immediately strike a viewer is how the two boats on the left look exactly like the two boats on the right (actually, the two boats on the right are clones of the two boats on the left). i'm not against manipulation, but when it fails [in my opinion] so miserably to convince, what can i say. if it wasn't bad enough, one could go on about fluffy photoshop diffusion that makes a feathered 70s haircut look positivley stylish by comparion.
