afterthoughts 0 Posted March 14, 2005 I gave this a double seven because I find the image original, powerful, and most important emotional. This is difficult to do with inanimate objects. Yet you achieved a deep brooding feeing from the composition. Very well done and congratulations. Regards, Howard Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted March 16, 2005 I thought this was Channel Islands but have never been to Alderney. I like the way the castle hugs the rocks trying to get as low as possible to avoid the cannon fire. (As indeed I would if I was it!) Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted March 18, 2005 These forts were built by the Victorians who were in fear of an invasion by Napoleon III of France. The coast of Alderney, being sufficiently close to the coast of Brittany, became one of the most fortified stretches of coastline in the world. Things got worse when the Nazi's invaded the Channel Islands, as they didn't want to give up the only bit of British soil that they ever occupied! Its all well worth a visit, but I would value your opinion as to the photograph - Thanks, Nick. Link to comment
ricardo navarro 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Great composition and mood, helped by exposure. I do not think I would need to look at the colour version to tell this is better. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Thanks to everyone so far for your kind comments. Here is the colour version for comparison. Regards, Nick. Link to comment
steven_linford 0 Posted March 21, 2005 hoorah for B/W prints!!!! the monochrome is dramatic, brooding and dangerously menacing whereas the colour is much less interesting. B/W is the way forward, and certainly your forte!! Link to comment
