Alec - this is excellent & the cropping is perfect (IMO). 7/7. Alec, another quick D70 question: when using a standard AF 400mm lens (for example) due to the CCD, is the length a true 400mm or less? Same with 135mm? - Patrick

Hi Patrick, normally due to the CCD size you have to X 1.5 factor. So 300mm will be 450mm equivalent. Did you check out the baboon shot?

Seeing the original, your crop is perfect, with nice presentation of the water. Very well done Pnina

Thanks Pnina, Biliana, I think a little thought on composition can make an ordinary shot appear more aesthetic. Glad you see it too. ^_^

After all you always come up with superb compositions.

I too agree with Pnina that you have done a wonderful crop which enhance the size & nearness of the tigers. Excellent image that I can't keep my 7/7.

Hi, Alec! Just love the tiger shots, and have decided this is my favorite. Your crop made the shot amazing! I agree that the rear tiger has an icy stare...I wouldn't mess with him! BTW, the water is perfect...I'm so glad you cropped in so that it was showcased. :) Leslie

One big chomp, brrr...scarry! Noted Mark Lucus comment about the focal point, but it certainly doesn't detract from the overall appeal of this image. Seeing the original makes me appreciate the higher pixel CCD that much more. Cool capture, Alec. BTW, it think you probably meant a 70-300 f4-5.6 as I'm not aware that an 80-300 exist, no? ^_^

I think by focusing on the eyes of the tiger which is staring at me saves the day here. Perhaps making the shallower DOF is more appropriate as well.

Wilson, I didn't use the Nikon lens series but the Sigma 70-300 Super II APO Macro. Apparently it provide richer colors and I like the Macro features as well. A good lens to knock about but not as fast as the Nikon 80-200 AF 2.8 ^_^

Your timing and cropping are just perfect here. I love the blackness of the water and the mood it gives the photo. Super.

Only one comment (if I may!) I'm not so fond of the orange you use in the frame. I think it detracts from the subtlety of the image with its limited colours (this is so much more than a "safari" photo).

PS I'd be interested to know if this was shot in RAW mode? Your photo is better than an advertisment for Nikon!

Very kind of you to critique my images Dominique. I value your comments and I have always admired your creative talents as seen in your PN gallery. As you can see this image is quite ordinary but shot in NEF (RAW) mode. Because of it's size it retains all the resolution after cropping. I concentrated on the eyes of the tiger looking at me and guess it pays off, making an ordinary image stand out because of it's crisp quality. ^_^
