Thank you for sharing this magnificent photo. The water adds so much. As a PN novice, I have one question: How did you blacken out the background?

Your portfolio is great.

Thank you all so much, I never expected such a huge response. Its a fact that I would not have been able to take any decent shots if I had not been learning from all the photos and comments posted daily on PN. I have learned a lot from you all.

Christopher, I've seen your portfolio and your shots are beautiful! The tiger in this shot is in a pond and the steady water in the background was fairly dark. Though I darking it a bit more with bit of levels and burning, something which I now feel was not that necessary. I think I would submit a version later with the meat cloned out and that water not so dark. (in my home monitor I can see the dark water in the BG, but in my office old monitor I see a black BG even at max brightness!)

The shot makes the size and power of the animal incredibly vivid.

Question: Do you know if this is a tiger or a lion/tiger hybrid? The coloring doesn't look like a tiger's.

An awesome photo. Excellent timing. The tiger is sharp, but the water droplets give the image a sense of motion (coupled with the power of the tiger). Good selection of shutter speed and aperture.

thanks guys! you're really generous with your comments :)

Shin, not sure if there are any lion/tiger hybrids in existance but what a cool idea! haha. well its a white tiger, the coat is dark because its well soaked in water, though neck up the tiger is relatively dry so the coat is still white.
