One of your best photos, Hugh. The whole composition is excellent. The scene and its perspective are unique! A winner.

The dramatic effect of your picture (sky, buildings) reflects well the inner struggel that this man is living... Beautiful, strong and disturbing. A great photo.

'David' is a lovely man and a dear friend that I see from time to

time, his life is plagued by demons caused by his chronic addictions

to both alcohol and drugs.

On this day I bumped into him while I was out and about doing my

street work; we spoke for a few minutes about better times when I

came to the point on asking him why he was wearing a hospital gown?

I just absconded from the hospital, he informed me. The Patterson

wing (a psychiatric section of the world famous Saint Mary's

hospital is just up the road in Paddington.)

he was carrying a plastic bag laden with liquid booty but still

managed to get a couple of pounds out of me on the pretext of

getting a bus to some place or another.

Many years ago I was told that Donald was a marketing genius who

eventually succumbed to too much of the good life and it was not too

long before he lost everything and ended up on the streets.

This image say's something to me as the business man walking past

carrying rubbish reminds me of Donald?s past, if he would have known

if all the drugs and drink would have caused him so much grief would

he still have chosen to walk the same road?

I see many on the streets of London from all corners of society,

unified in the sharing of a mutual misery and yet most of those

through no fault of their own.

I agree with everyone - one of your best, Hugh. The perspective is great, like the world is closing in around on him. As often shown in your compositions, people walk by like they don't notice anything unusual.

Hi Hugh

I have to agree with everyone else in that this is oe of your best shots yet, which is most definitely saying something. The way the buildings draw you in and the way perspective seems to alter is brilliant.

Well done !

Whens the exhibition ?

Cheers

Mark

Dear Hugh, the closed perspective behind the man and his gesture , are saying it all.you don't have happy stories to tell...

The very good one is your exhibition, that aside from presentung and telling these sad life stories, will tell a lot about you as a unique human being.

Thank you Hugh for sharing with us, I wish I could be there. Pnina

another fantastic image - this one is very striking - for me, the angles of the buildings make it look like the world is closing in on this chap, in addition the Black and White add to the mood of the shot - perfect - this is a $$$ shot well done - Impossible to improve 7/7

Hi Hugh

I was'nt sure at first why this photo had gained all the high ratings. Then I found myself looking at it more and more - then I read the text you had written about the picture (arse about face I know but thats me).

Now I've looked at it at a larger size and it is a really superb photo and the story it tells is sad but becoming more and more commonplace.

I've also now looked through your other work in the London Lives gallery on PDN and I think you take very interesting and challenging photo's and I have to say I'm well impressed.

I earn a good living taking commercial photo's for catalogues etc etc and I love my job but you take the kind of pictures that I wish I could as they really mean something and capture true emotion and gritty reallity.

Sorry to waffle on but it's not every day that I see pictures that stand out from the crowd.

Best regards

I too love the story behind this image. It reminds of scene I witnessed while back in the States of a homeless man at a bus stop. The world just seemed to pass him by without a care. I wondered what was his story and how did he become homeless. I didn't have my camera with me, but the picture of this man will forever be en grained in my mind.
