Boo

nicholasprice

It was New Year's Eve. I was a little drunk. The room was dimly lit. "Boo" was dancing. The lens was wide open at f1.4. The auto-focus failed in the very low light!

A fun shot but with an undertone of slightly spooky ambivalence as the expression might be a smile or maybe something more sinister.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

This was really an abstract experiment to see if I could make something from a failed photograph. I liked the crop, and thought it had an aesthetic mask-like quality, so I posted it to see what other's thought.

Here is the original, un-flattering, full-frame, auto-focus "failure" for comparison.

The technical details explain where the failure came from!

Regards, Nick.

"to see if I could make something from a failed photograph"

HAH! I thought I was the only one who had these. I'm considering a folder titled: The Ones That Got Away, which would contain images that almost made it, but lack one, or two key elements.

Anyway, I've heard of studies that suggest newborns prefer pictures of faces, as opposed to pictures of tractors, or flowers. Maybe this is what the see until their eyes fully develop.

Thank you Doug, we should always try to make something from the results every time the shutter is fired!

Thanks Edward, I was wondering about which Goya, and completely forgot about "The Burial of the Sardine"!

Kind regards, Nick.
