manuelbayo1 0 Posted March 8, 2005 She is 94. She was born in Madrid, Spain, in the early years of the last century. She enjoyed the happy twenties. She got married and gave birth during the Spanish civil war. Her father was shot by Franco few years after the end of the war. She was widowed in her forties and worked hard in a labour world dominated by men, to bring her two daughters up. She has been happy. Two months ago, her hips break and she waited immobilized in the bed for a long month before the surgeons could operate her. In all this time, she never complained. The photo was taken a week after her operation. Her nice look was far away from where I was... It is clear: for her everything is done... Link to comment

manuelbayo1 0 Posted March 8, 2005 Thanks for your nice and generous comments. Shara, yes when I took this photo I was thinking on what a nice idea could be to convert this in a serie...and I'm still thinking seriously on it. Link to comment

marcelosoriarodriguez 0 Posted March 8, 2005 Great pose by this woman. The story is a very good companion to the photograph, but even without it one could maybe imagine a life of hard work just by the look in her eyes. I also like that the picture shows a lot of respect towards this woman, somehow I usually find photographs of people at the hospital a bit intrusive, but this doesn't happen to me with this one. Muy buena, felicidades. Marcelo Link to comment

Link to comment
maurik 0 Posted March 8, 2005 An amazing photo, with an amazing story. Thank you for putting this bit of history in front of us!I wonder if the photo would be more or less powerful if it was edited to that the medical stuff is less distracting? Link to comment
tutte 0 Posted March 9, 2005 This is the real thing! My Mom is 96 and has the same look and bruising. Death at that age arrives on the wings of a dove. 7/7 Link to comment
j_doyle 0 Posted March 9, 2005 A beautiful and dignified woman. Your photo speaks volumes about her...and your description of her life adds immensely. Has she seen this photo? Perhaps she'd also like to hear some of the responses we've had here to her image and her story. God bless her. Link to comment
jose reina 0 Posted March 9, 2005 Cuando ves una fotografia y retienes el aliento durante largo rato sin darte cuenta, significa que te ha llegado que te transmite una historia. Una muy humana. Magnifico documento. enhorabuena 7/7 Link to comment
