Guest Posted March 7, 2005 Wow, what an image. I am immediately drawn into to it like a bee is toward honey. Link to comment
asun_olivan 0 Posted March 7, 2005 I think it's an amazing picture! The woman looking at the camara seems to be asking "What am I gonna do? I don't have any money or hope... what am I gonna give to my little sisters?" Love the colors! Enhorabuena! Link to comment
haleh b 0 Posted March 8, 2005 I don't see suffering in this image and I must agree that if mom too was distracted like her children I could have more appreciated the poetic effect. Link to comment

wayne_willis2 0 Posted March 8, 2005 great use of toning to capture the misery? of the moment Link to comment
WJT 647 Posted March 8, 2005 I must preface this comment with the fact that I really like this photograph. The toning is exactly like a hand-colored B&W photograph in the days before color film. In that respect it is superb. I also enjoy the perspective and composition immensley. But I have to agree with the comments about lack of suffering. Indeed, there is a lack of emotion in general here. The adult's view into the camera is more one of apathy, certainly not one of hostility. The group is reasonably well dressed, their clothes are not tattered. The children appear to be well washed, neat, and not hungry. So where is the suffering? They could just as well be out for a Sunday stroll. Regards. Link to comment
emre 0 Posted March 9, 2005 My god, what color; it looks hand-painted! You have also controlled the light perfectly. Link to comment
amélie 0 Posted March 10, 2005 Interesting that comments are bemoaning lack of suffering and emotion, not sure what your intent was/is, but I think much could be thought about the situation portrayed. The feeling I get from all of them is rather quiet, very inward, just that is emotional as to the 'why'. Link to comment
satur 0 Posted March 30, 2005 Fotografí¡ con una ambientacin y una luz preciosas, una composicin equilibrada, es una fotografí¡ que relaja. Link to comment
michaelk 0 Posted June 2, 2005 Suffering hmmmm. The mom (probable single mom) doesn't have a (happy face or joyous look) nor would I say apathy, more hardship than anything. For us men who don't care for children daily by ourselves, we may not see the suffering. I don't feel dirty faces and starvation with tattered closes are necessary. I feel the struggle in this picture. This could easily be a novel cover. Link to comment
bstoch 0 Posted March 3, 2007 An amazing, strong, thought provoking image Mark! Just look at all the varied responses as to what the viewers are feeling. That's better than a bushel of 7's lol! This image works on some many levels, the muted colours, a bit of a vintage feel, an amazing dynamic composition. Throw in some conjecture as to a story and you have a very powerful image.
