Took this shot with the canon 70-200 F2.8 IS lens and wanted a

critique of the photo. It does seem a bit out of focus, so I would

like some input as to what might have been the proper camera setting

in a dark theatre with spotlights. Thanks!

What was the speed and aperture of this photo? I'm not sure it was out of focus: her feet seems sharp. Maybe she was too fast for the camera speed?

F2.8 1/250 100iso at 100mm.

This is good maybe you should try to set the focus on her head. During performances as dark as dance you may choose speed priority mode (Tv at 1/160 up to 1/250) and higher iso such 400 up to 800. This will give you the best results but if the light show is very dark or the dancers move too fast you can changes these settings (increasing the speed and iso). Well maybe you know all of this, if not just read some low light photography tutorials (especially regarding dance).

Thanks for your comment, i really appreciated it. As for your photo, i like it. If the settings would have been right this shot would have been amazing. There is incredible emotion and expression that you were able to capture, but congrats, i also enjoy your portfolio too.

Low ligth conditions, dance performance is a dificult task for a photograper. This is a very well done picture.

Probably your shot looks a little unsharp in the top becase the F 2.8 and the speed of the dancer.

At an f/2.8 you will not have much depth of field and it may not have been possible to obtain focus of both the dancer's feet and her head (they are not in the same focal plane). However, it is most likely that you caught this as her head was still moving and it is motion blur, not focus blur. In either case, it is still a good shot and was worth posting. - Mister Ken
