It's beautiful, nice shot. But it needs more more contrast. Here is your photo with 2 halfs: more contrast/auto levels. you can see the difference between your photo without modifications and these two halfs.

Just curious. It seems that unless you were using a lot of fill flash the geese would be backlit a lot more harshly. Of course their lightness could be due to dodging/burning or shadow/hightlight use in photoshop.

My guess is that it's a composite, but one pulled off with a great sense of style.
