Was this taken in low light with fast film and no flash?

 

I ask, as the aperture was clearly wide open, as there is hardly any depth of field. - This is appropriate as the religious iconography in the backgroung is pleasingly out of focus; but the problem is that areas of barbed wire surrounding the candle are also out of focus, which is a shame as this is a powerful image!

I like the composition a lot. I wonder if the earlier comment about the barbed wire not being sharply focused has to do with the scanning method?

I thought that at first Jerry, but if you look, it is only the "knots" in the wire at the fore of the image, and those at the back, which are blurred. The wire in line with the falme (where I believe Paul focused his camera) is in focus!

Thanks for your comments; the photo was taken without flash at f2.8, handheld; I focussed on the barbed wire nearest to the flame, and the DOF is very small indeed.
