allonkira 0 Posted February 23, 2005 FLIES - love to "hunt" them with my camera. The amount of details in their faces, amaze me, each time, again and again. I found this giant fellow standing very close to the edge of a wall. So, I put the camera lens against the edge of the wall and hold the flash in my left hand against the camera to get more stability and... fire! I succeeded to shoot only three images before he lost his patience. The first one was with good focus on the eyes and the third one with focus on the mouth and the antennas. Then, I combined these images into one, with PS. I'm attaching a photo of the equipment I used for this image. I guess that I can't go closer than this. I also like to dedicate this one to Wilson Tsoi - I promised you a closer fly portrait - so here it is! Thnx, allon. Link to comment
anton_arkhipov 0 Posted February 23, 2005 Very nicely done! And with reverse lens! How close did you have to get to that fly, and how did you not scare it away? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 23, 2005 Bug pic don't turn me on a lot but find your shots most interesting cause they usually show the bugs in very creative and fantastic representations. The detail is extrodinary and would like to do the same in the future, only with flowers. Its great you share your techniques with people too. This one is quite unique due to the magnification. Just the fact the right eye is dof'd out really demonstrates how very narrow the actual focus plane is. Well to be totally honest seeing these have made quite a few changes... threw out the fly swatter and now leave the top off the butter dish so they have something to eat. Its an amazing world and thanks for showing us a part. /7/7/ Link to comment

darren_gayle 0 Posted February 24, 2005 7/7 from me but I think the effort you put in this one needs 14/7. Anyway could't rate it like this so you will have to settle for 7/7. Cheers Link to comment
