Lucky I had this dark sky. But otherwise, how can I improve my

mountain photography? (please mind the rest of the folder...) Thanks

for your help!

You have the first thing which it takes for good mountain photography, which is getting there.

You might consider using a polariser, and then you have much of what is technically needed.

The thing to work on is composition. You might want to decide which message you want to give (towering mountains, traces of man, untouched place, texture in glaciers, forbidding environment) and therefore arrange your shot such that you have this in mind and try to pass it on.

A problem of this shot is that there is no real scale, so we do not get the towering effect. Having something in the foreground usually helps. It also helps to have someone in the picture, to give a sense of scale.

I suggest you try to look at some of the usual alpine calendars and book and ask yourself why you like the pictures, in addition to the subjects in themselves...

Cheers, s.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, the polariser would definetly help with the colors. So I should better not leave it at home next time...

Next week I'm going to be back in that region and hopefully I can post some improved shots after that.

And... remember to keep it simple. Here, for instance, the other mountain coming out of the right end side creates a point of attraction where these three colours blend in a place and one gets distracted away from the mountain itself.

Another point, here, is that the sun is a bit too high and the scene is a bit too backlit, so that the texture of the ice is washed out.

I uploaded another picture of the Mnch which I just took this morning. There's still no "scale" on the picture but there's better contrast now.
