You were fortunate to find such a scene to photograph, and you have done a very competent job here. I like the extensive dof and, of course, you have realized the medium format image quality and translated it well to the digital medium here. I like the composition as well. This is one of those images that takes me away to its location.

Walter, nice shot. I always driven by trillium thinking that I can get back to them and haven't yet. I found some of the best spots near Miners Castle and along the road near AuTrain. Very nice capture.

I should mention that I was being eaten alive by giant mosquitos and black flies when I made this. The apparent peacefulness here does not show my agony. Thanks for the visit. Regards.

Very nice, Walter. I like that you have the trilliums taking up most of the shot, but still left some trees in the composition for scale and perspective.

Good composition and I like the colours here. My sympathies about the mosquitoes. I have a shot with a rather half hearted sunset which was a result of not being able to wait around for it in a vicious bunch of mosquitoes a SECOND LONGER!

I like that you didn't get too close to the flowers and included the surrounding trees. The sky is very well controlled. Crisp and natural look--I get the feeling of being there.

Nice, pleasant composition.

Nice composition, fresh flowers look great this time of year. I like the way the flowers go right up to the trees. Cheers, Sondra

I knew these were trilliums even from the thumbnail. Another glorious ode to nature....besides loving the overall composition, the color combination is a favorite of mine....for that reason alone, a 7/7

the question with trilliums is what do you do about exposure....do you go for the overall look or do you go for the details of the whites?

the presence of meat eating insects complicates the situation.

it looks on my monitor, which is no great shakes of a monitor, like you chose the overall exposure, not for the details of the white....but actually, BUT....

I realize this is a digital slam down in quality from your original.

So my question is did you shoot other frames and did you get the white detail that I think you might have missed in this shot.

BTW my last crawling on the ground trillium shoot resulted in a small stretch of bare wrist and forearm I rubbed over some just sprouted poison ivy....sigh.

Now that's a nice photograph! These are such nice flowers, Bill, and your closeup looks great. To answer your question, I exposed for the whole scene using the TTL metering set for matrix mode. I think the way the trillium sets up "colonies" of itself is a big part of the charm of this species. They carpeted the forest floor as far as I could see into it. If I crop a small portion out of the scan of the original 6x7 I can see good detail in it. Since this was print film, the exposure latitude is quite forgiving. But it would not have the fine detail of a closeup, and I was in no mood to stick around at this location! Buzzzzz. Thanks for your visit and comment. Regards.

I love this photograph, and your entire portfolio as well. Building a little bit on Bill's observation, the detail in the flower question is really limited to the two or three in the foreground center, and especially the larger two. A little tweak in PS would bring just a suggestion of detail. I may be off base, though, and offer this tentatively because you clearly have mastered this art.

I love trilliums too. This is a wonderful shot of as far as the eye/camera can see, trilliums.
