I like the formal composition and the evidence of the passage of time. Good tonal quality in a high contrast situation. An alternative framing might be to shift the whole thing a little higher to reinforce the diagonal composition. regards - Colin

I didn't want a standard view of this well known building, what do you think? Any

comments or suggestions would be welcome. - Thanks.

I like the way the shadows of the second foreground pillar bite into the next receding pillar as is done by the shadows of the next two also. How do you feel about a small crop on the left so as to end that side darkly?

A fine photograph in any event, unusual for sure, and one that achieves what you wanted.

Thanks for the comment Steven.

I think that you are right about the need to crop slightly from the left. I haddn't really thought about it before - thanks for the suggestion.

Regards, Nick

I really like this. Great use of negative space, with an exactly right on the shadow detail. And, especially, I like how the long focal length and hard shadow edges combine to cause the illusion of inverted depth, the left seems alternatively closer then farther. !

Stephen, I'm glad you you agree with everyone--that's very agreeable of you. As I'm sure you'd agree... [some people on Photo.net put smiley faces after this kind of jocular remark.]

Not that I missed this one at all when you uploaded it, Nicholas, but at the time I was too 'taken up' with those two other favourites "Foro Romano" and "St Peter's from the Tiber". It has nicely passed the test of time, still holding all its visual appeal after having been viewed quite a few times. Beautifully balanced composition and pattern, and the fascination the scars of time left on this columns inpire! Best regards.
